LGBT Confidence Building Sessions

Are you LGBT in Cumbria but find it hard to be out? Do you lack confidence and want to meet like minded people to explore ways of feeling better about yourself? Are you interested in forming a group in your area that will be a safe space for you and other LGBT people to be yourselves?

Cumbria Equality Resource Centre is working alongside OutReach Cumbria to deliver a series of confidence building sessions across Cumbria for LGBT people.

The aim of the course is to help participants to understand more about their own strengths and to help people who are isolated to find out what is happening in the wider LGBT world. If you are a member of an existing LGBT group and would like to contribute more to it but have a problem with confidence you are welcome to join us. We would also like to work with people who feel isolated in their local community, as chances are there are others like you and we would like to help you to connect with them.

We are funded by the Big Lottery Fund to support the LGBT community to form groups and organisations and we recognise that sometimes people may need a little help to gain confidence and skills before this can happen. Our aim is to help the LGBT community in Cumbria to help themselves and we will encourage participants in this course to think about what they can contribute in the longer term.

After the course if you have an idea you would like our help with then we will be please to give you practical help and advice on how to make it happen; on the other hand, if you don't feel quite ready to take that step then that is fine also. We will treat your wishes with respect at all stages of the process.

The sessions are open to anyone over the age of 16 who lives in Cumbria and identifies as LGBTQI and will be held in Carlisle, Whitehaven, Barrow in Furness, and Kendal from September to November 2011.
