Eden House Children's Hospice fundraising ball
A country house near Carlisle will take on the glamour of Bollywood for an Indian-themed ball to raise cash for the city’s Eden House Children’s Hospice.
Dr Neela Shabde is organising the event at Warwick Hall, near Wetheral, on June 15 to boost funds for the hospice in Durdar Road.
Dr Shabde is clinical director for children and families with NHS Cumbria’s clinical commissioning group. Her work involves developing services and commissioning arrangements for the care of children and young people in Cumbria.
She said: “Through my work I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand the great work Eden House does for children and families in Cumbria, and I wanted to help support the charity.
“A Bollywood Ball will be a fantastic evening filled with fun and laughter and a great opportunity to raise funds for Eden House.
“We have caterers providing an Indian banquet. There will also be a charity auction, a performance of Indian dancing as well as a disco at the end of the evening.
“Though Indian dress is not compulsory, we are encouraging as many people as possible to come in bright, ethnic outfits.”
Working with Dr Shabde to arrange the event is her friend and colleague Moira Angel, NHS England nursing director for Cumbria.
She said: “It will be good to see old and new friends and colleagues at the ball which promises to be the event of the year. I am a keen to support of the work the hospice and this is a great opportunity to raise funds for this service.”
Matt Boyle, head of marketing at the hospice, said: “We are delighted to be the chosen charity for the Bollywood Ball. It promises to be a really special and unique event.
“The money raised from the event will go to funding the ongoing daily costs of Eden House, which is the only children’s hospice in Cumbria. The hospice cares for children and young people when they need it most. This support and care is also extended to the siblings, parents and friends of those we care for.”
