Going to the theatre can be an amazing experience – the excitement of seeing live actors on stage, the thrilling special effects, the special feeling of laughing along with 400 other people. At Theatre by the Lake we want everyone to be able to come along to our shows and have a great time, but we know that not everybody enjoys the normal theatre environment.
We’re offering two special performances for anyone who needs a more easy-going atmosphere - we call them ‘Relaxed Performances’. They are perfect for adults and children with autism spectrum disorders or physical and learning disabilities, as well as parents and carers with young babies. You can see the Relaxed Performance of our knockabout family comedy See How They Run! on Tue 1 October at 12pm and pirate adventure Swallows and Amazons on Thu 5 December at 6.30pm. During the performances there will be extra lighting in the theatre and plenty of staff to help with seating and access. Loud sound effects and bright lights will be toned down so no-one is upset or scared by them. There’s no need to worry about disrupting the show, because you’ll be allowed to move around and make noise. There will also be chill-out spaces outside the theatre in case you need a break from the show. We’ll send out information packs before the performances, so that you can be fully prepared before you arrive.
Just for these performances, we’re offering a special ticket deal – any person under 26 (including parents and carers) can come for only £5. We also have a range of affordable tickets for those aged 26 and over – between £15 and £10 for See How They Run! and between £22.50 and £10 for Swallows and Amazons. Discounts are available for groups of ten or more and a limited number of free tickets for group leaders accompanying under 26s.
