Carlisle International Women's Group

Translate

AWAZ, Carlisle One World Centre (COWC) and Multicultural Cumbria (MCC) joined forces earlier this year to host an International Women’s Day celebration. There was a delicious spread of food, live poetry performances, music, henna and time to get to know other women living in Carlisle (some women even travelled from other parts of Cumbria).

We asked the women what they would like to see happen in Carlisle and one of the suggestions was to have an International Women’s Day every month! So that’s what we decided to do...to some extent!

COWC were previously running a monthly International Women’s Coffee Morning in Carlisle. However, all three organisations work with diverse groups of women across the city, so we decided to join together and support each other in running the Carlisle International Women’s Group.

We still have monthly coffee mornings and it’s so lovely to meet wonderful women from different backgrounds who call Carlisle home. It’s an excellent opportunity to make connections, to feel less isolated, to have a laugh, to learn from each other, to find out what’s going on across the city and to have a cuppa of course.

Our group is constantly changing and new members are always welcome (you don’t have to be “international” to attend). We also occasionally do some crafts/creative projects and link up with other organisations/individuals who come to talk to us about the work that they’re doing.

We meet the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Calva Bar (we only serve tea and coffee!) at the University of Cumbria, Fusehill Street, Carlisle, CA1 2HH. Cakes and nibbles are always welcomed.

Our next coffee morning will be: Wednesday 8th January 2020, 11:00-12:30.
