RACE AND RELIGIOUS HATE CRIME HAS NO PLACE IN CUMBRIA

The fourth National Hate Crime Awareness Week runs from Saturday 10th to Saturday 17th October 2015, and is a chance to raise awareness of hate crime and its effects on communities.

All year round, under the banner ‘Say NO to Hate in Cumbria,’ local organisation, AWAZ Cumbria provides hate crime education, information and support to victims, witnesses and the general public.

This week in particular, AWAZ Cumbria is encouraging local people to use this opportunity to learn more about the effects of hate crime and the different ways in which it can be reported.

AWAZ Cumbria’s Chair said:

“Many people who live and work in Cumbria are not aware that hate crime happens here. It is often thought of as an issue that is confined to larger cities.

Hate crime has a devastating effect on people and communities, and our local area is not immune to it.

National Hate Crime Awareness Week is an opportunity to highlight the fact that everyone can play a role in tackling hate crime. If you hear it, see it or feel it, report it. “
