Our annual Carlisle Unity Festival was held on 15th July. For the first time in its history, the Carlisle Unity Festival had to contend with rain-and lots of it!

Barrow Unity Festival and its visitors truly excelled themselves in 2023, 1039 people attended the main area, 570 attended the workshop area and 302 people enjoyed the international food-tasting area.

This year Kendal Unity Festival closed out the five events on offer for the county-wide Cumbria Unity Festival. Our theme this year was 'The Power of Unity". Our goal was to show people what we could achieve when working together. Which would surely be a lot with over 500 people visiting over the course of the day.
The first of the Cumbria Unity Festivals for 2023 took place in Barrow on July 8th. The event started with a Unity parade with a diversity of people and flags processing from the Derby Inn to the forum. Outside the forum there was a stage with numerous acts performing and within the Forum there were numerous workshops and stalls which were all well attended. At the international zone there was the opportunity to sample a wide variety of foods from numerous countries.
Racial discrimination is a global problem that exists internationally, in the UK and in Cumbria. COVID-19 has demonstrated the stark race inequalities that continue to exist and the need for public organisations to do all they can to address discrimination.
Census data helps inform funding decisions on public services and the information we share in the questionnaire will help shape the future of the communities in England and Wales.
